Automated total station

An automated total station (ATS), or geodetic robotic station, autonomously measures the position of hundreds of prisms around the clock. The system detects movements down to a few tenths of a millimetre and raises an automatic alert the moment a threshold is exceeded.

What is automated total station monitoring?

An ATS is a motorised total station that autonomously measures a pre-programmed series of points. These points are reflective prisms mounted on the structure to be monitored and on stable reference points. By measuring the angle and distance to each prism, the station computes the exact 3D position of every point.

By repeating this cycle continuously — for example every hour or every 15 minutes — a precise time series of each movement is built up. Reference prisms outside the zone of influence correct for station drift, temperature and atmospheric effects.

Real-time data and automatic alerting

All measurements are sent to our monitoring platform via 4G/5G or fibre. You follow displacements, settlements and tilt live on an online dashboard with charts and maps.

For each point you set attention and alarm thresholds. When exceeded, the right people immediately receive a notification by email or SMS so action can be taken in time.

Approach and installation

We start with a zero measurement and a measurement plan tailored to your risk analysis. We then install the station in a stable, protected setup with permanent power and a data connection. After commissioning, we monitor data quality and report at the agreed frequency.
